The VDV is an interest group of the German Pilot Training Schools that offer flight training leading to the Airline Transport Licence (ATPL).
Currently, the Association consists of 15 member schools whose training concepts focus on theoretical knowledge (also as distance learning course), practical flight training, crew coordination and most recently also on MPL training. All training programs are characterised by a common statement of guaranteed high quality and carry JAR-FCL approval. The affiliated flying schools adhere to the European framework rules and directives and comply with the EU-wide regulations and requirements for the training and licensing of pilots.
The schools' Managing Director and Head of Training meet on a regular basis to discuss training-related matters and issues which often result in joint projects.
An example: With implementation of the European JAR-FCL rules for licensing pilots, the Association’s theoretical training content was adapted to meet the new requirements. In a second step, the VDV developed new training objectives and detailed syllabuses.
The new in-house entrance test for future pilots jointly developed by the VDV and its partner schools is another guarantee of the highest quality of training. This test allows the prospective pilots to identify their level of knowledge and possible areas of improvement with regard to the skill requirements for pilots even before the training commences. The schools’ teaching staff supports the applicants in getting prepared for the aptitude assessment and, beyond that, help them to optimise their personal profiles by providing them with the knowledge needed.
Most of the professional pilots in Germany completed their training with a VDV affiliated school. By now, more than 60 percent of the student pilots have been trained at a flight training partner school. The goal of the Association is to ensure a high-quality cockpit training in accordance with the German aviation standards.
Nowadays many former trainees of VDV flight training schools find employment with leading German and international commercial airlines.
