To become a commercial airline pilot it is essential that the applicant meets the following basic requirements:
Note: Being already in possession of a license will make your course easier. Holding a license is not mandatory though.
You can start the commercial pilot's training at the age of 17 years. The minimum age at which you are allowed to be granted a license by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (LBA) is 21 years. To acquire the ATPL, there is no upper age restriction although the airlines determine age limitations with regard to the employment of pilots. For further details, please contact the respective airlines or one of our VDV flight schools.
Further information on other medical requirements to be satisfied by the applicant shall be provided by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (LBA) or by any aero-medical centre. Addresses of licensed aero-medical examiners are available at the LBA website (www.lba.de) or on (Contact: +49 531/2355-0). Moreover, any flight school shall be able to provide you with a list of approved aero-medical centres (AMC) in Germany.
